Mobile Marketing ideas and best practices for hotels

A great new post from Hotel eMarketer on possible best practices and opportunities in the niche of mobile marketing to capture, inform and relate to hotel guests in the near future:

Hotel Mobile Marketing - A Hotel Guest Story From The Near Future: Here’s a peek at the hotel guest experience in the near future. With mobile phones becoming an increasingly important marketing and CRM channel, improving technology and awareness will soon allow hotel marketers to enhance the hotel guest interaction, in a very similar way to what’s described below…

Domination Jubilation. The Emirates Airlines marketing launch in San Francisco

Guest Blog - the ISM team describes their approach (and subsequent jubilation!) to introducing Emirates Airlines to the San Francisco market...

They stopped. They looked. They smiled. They discussed.
To paraphrase Sally Field, “They liked it. They really liked it.”

But let’s back up 36 hours or so, to when we first started unpacking box after box of artificial palm fronds (1,280 fronds to be exact). The plan was to make a typical station domination anything but typical. For those who don’t know, a “station domination” is when a single advertiser buys every available unit in a particular station. In this case, the advertiser was our client Emirates, the world’s fastest growing airline. The site? San Francisco’s Montgomery Station. And the crew? Five installers, two ISMers, one Emirates client…and a partridge in a palm tree.

Tech Creativity - Hotels take to offering Skype in Guest Rooms

This took a while to happen but it's great to hear that Hotels are finally jumping onto the Internet Telephony bandwagon and offering hotel guests services like Skype in their hotel rooms. Here is a release from 'Nordic Hotel Forum', based in Tallinn, Estonia about their creative tech deployment (story sent through by Dimitrios Buhalis):

Tech Creativity - Hotels take to offering Skype in Guest Rooms

Nordic Hotel Forum first in Baltic States to offer Skype telephones in hotel rooms: The business and conference hotel Nordic Hotel Forum in Tallinn is the first hotel in the Baltic States that offers its clients the opportunity to use Skype telephones from February this year. The new business class rooms are specially designed to meet all the needs of business travellers. All rooms have wireless Internet connection with Skype telephones that can be used without a computer.

Don't Just Sit There! Compromises we've made with the economy and some basic solutions

Don’t Just Sit There! Just from my recent experience with batteries, I have to say, “Thank goodness life is not made in China.” The cell phones my carrier mandates are made in China. After two months, the first battery could hold no charge. The earlier phones were made elsewhere and lasted seven years. Similarly, the 17-inch Apple laptop made in Taiwan and purchased eight years ago is still going strong with its original battery operating at 70% capacity. The Chinese-made 17-inch Apple laptop bought two years ago is already on its third battery.

Some of us prefer to pay for well-made products that operate effectively, yet when we try to buy a cell phone, landline phone (or almost anything else you care to name) that has not been made in China (usually with as many short cuts as possible to maximize profits) it proves practically impossible. The ubiquity of it all makes for a grim shopping experience.
